Why not hitchhike on a yacht? Ever thought about it?
Sailing across the Atlantic is a true adventure.
With dolphins alongside, billions of stars and total isolation, it’s a fantasy for many.
Starting in the sub-tropical islands of Europe and ending up on the exotic shores of the Caribbean – an Atlantic Crossing is on plenty of people’s bucket lists.
But you don’t have to own a yacht. You just need to hitchhike on one!

It’s almost impossible to explore the West Indies without a boat.
Sailing allows you to get to places that are otherwise too expensive or difficult to enter.
Many Caribbean islands don’t have so much as an airstrip, let alone a regular service for tourists.
Sailing to Atlantic and Caribbean islands gets you in through the back route. You don’t fly in and get whisked to a resort. You make landfall and explore from the beach inwards.
But first, you have to get there.
Europeans have been sailing from Europe to the Americas for centuries. Sure you could fly in 8 hours.
But why sit on a plane when you could spend 2-5 weeks sailing across one of the last remaining wildernesses? And it is a wilderness.
When you hitch a ride across the Atlantic, you’ll get to learn to sail (or improve), you’ll catch fish sustainably, you’ll be escorted hundreds of miles by playful dolphins and you’ll see more stars than you could ever imagine.
Many sailing couples and yachts need an extra set of eyes and hands on the Atlantic crossing and they don’t always need experienced ones.
If you’re enthusiastic, good in tough situations and happy to be cut off from the social media world for a month – hitchhiking across the Atlantic will be the adventure of a lifetime.
I wrote this short, practical guide to help you increase your chances of getting a passage on a yacht.
But this book isn’t just about how you can convince a skipper to let you onboard for a month – it’s also about how you can work out which skippers know what they’re doing. After all, your life will be in their hands!
Hitchhiking across the Atlantic isn’t about sitting onboard for 4 weeks twiddling your thumbs. While you won’t be employed to help sail, you will be expected to help out to some extent.
You could be cooking, learning how to handle the sails, looking out for ships and even learning how to gut and fillet fish you catch!
This book is currently available from Amazon in Kindle edition. However, soon it’ll be available on iBooks, Nook and Kobo – so stay tuned if you want it in those formats!
